Challenge
The challenge for Saint Rock Media was to ensure the seamless integration of both virtual and in-person experiences across a five-day schedule across 4 different stages while maintaining consistent engagement for all attendees. Given the expansive nature of the conference, featuring keynote sessions, panel discussions, and workshops, it was crucial to create a cohesive event that offered value to both audiences. The goal was to build an environment where virtual attendees could feel just as engaged and connected as those attending in person while addressing topics ranging from career development to technology's role in creating social impact.
Solution
We facilitated a comprehensive hybrid experience by using the Hopin platform for remote attendees alongside an in-person event in Atlanta. The platform enabled seamless live streaming of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops, supported by high-quality audio-visual technology, four dedicated stages, and creative transitions to engage viewers across the globe. Over 50 speakers, including Greg Cunningham and Isaac Barnes, addressed topics such as the future of tech, career growth, and the importance of inclusive environments. Programming included targeted networking sessions and a virtual expo, providing sponsors with a platform to showcase products and services to an engaged audience.
Since taking the reins of Black is Tech in 2021, we have witnessed remarkable growth in attendance, scaling from 12,000 to 20,000 participants. In 2023, the conference brought together over 1,500 in-person attendees and a dynamic global virtual audience, establishing a truly inclusive and transformative platform. Representatives from 43 countries across every continent engaged in impactful discussions, exploring the intersection of technology, innovation, and socio-economic advancement. The conference featured over 50 speakers who valued the opportunity to address a community deeply committed to advancing diversity in tech. Sponsors, like Capital One, Cisco, and Warner Media, were thrilled with the engagement particularly online with 1,572 engaged visitors to their booths. They noted the opportunity to connect with a highly motivated audience and reported forging meaningful relationships with candidates. Black is Tech 2023 ultimately demonstrated the power of hybrid events to amplify underrepresented voices in the tech industry, providing a critical platform for growth, learning, and community building.
By creating a platform for Black technologists to share their experiences, learn from industry experts, and build lasting connections, Black is Tech 2023 solidified its position as a premier event championing diversity in tech and providing a platform for emerging voices.
