Challenge
Mothore Foundry, a pioneering token-gated think tank and incubator, set out to launch Africa's premiere Web3 conference, W3Africa, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference would showcase Africa's emerging Web3 technologies and business opportunities. In addition to launching a world-class technology conference, Mothore Foundry looked to build awareness around its membership launch and announced a groundbreaking partnership with African Leadership University (ALU). Mothore Foundry will introduce a new blockchain curriculum to ALU’s current education offerings. This will (choose a different word. It was used in the sentence prior)an unprecedented 250,000 developers across Africa into the global crypto engineering development ecosystem.
Numerous challenges had to be addressed to launch a premier Web3 conference. Among the hurdles were coordinating live broadcasts with in-person networking to a global audience, and managing speakers' diverse locations and time zones.
Solution
The conference was designed to introduce a global audience to local market opportunities by selecting a venue that could overcome load shedding while seamlessly integrating A/V live-streaming capabilities. Coworking lounges and networking parlors fostered interactive engagement, supported by cohesive marketing materials, an event website, ticketing, and content production. Attendees were welcomed by local hosts and immersed in culturally themed amenities, while the programming and speaker selection, like Momar Dieng; ALU and Robby Greenfield; Umoja Labs, reflected regional realities by focusing on human rights, education, sustainability, and the future of finance in Africa. Saint Rock Media managed every aspect—from branding, production, and venue sourcing to hotel booking, food and beverage, welcome parties, registration, talent, security, VIP management, programming, floor plan design, A/V technical management, and partner engagement—ensuring a comprehensive and regionally tailored experience.
W3A was a success, with incredible engagement from attendees, community partners, speakers, and a waitlist of partners. Mothore Foundry achieved its primary objective of raising awareness of its partnership with ALU and the launch of its memberships. There was a waitlist leading up to and beyond the conference's launch. W3Africa was well-received as Africa's premier Web3 conference, bringing world-class talent and expertise to its audience.
The conference featured 25 in-person and virtual speakers representing various countries and regions, including the United States, Africa, Japan, and Europe. W3Africa had attendees from Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and Johannesburg, showcasing the event's reach across the African Diaspora. Through highly curated VIP dinners, Mothore Foundry fostered valuable networking by engaging the South African business community, including local entrepreneurs and investors.
Building on the success of W3Africa, Mothore Foundry is excited to announce the launch of its sister conference, W3Node. This event will focus on the developer and education ecosystem, aiming to foster innovation and growth in Web3 engineering. W3Node will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, this September.
