Challenge

The key challenge was to organize an event that showcased Africa's technical talent and blockchain builders in an impactful and meaningful way. This meant creating an environment where long-lasting relationships and partnerships could be fostered.

With Africa’s Web3 ecosystem still in the development phase, the event needed to attract talented participants, source key industry speakers, and deliver a top-tier production experience that would set the stage for future W3Node conferences.

Solution

Our team, predominantly made up of African talent, was committed to showcasing the incredible skills within the African Web3 community. 13 impressive speakers were secured for the event, including Brenton Naiker, Principal and Head of Growth at CV Labs, Robert F. Franklin III, Managing Partner at RFS Consulting, and Craig Risi, Head of Development at Old Mutual.

Topics of discussion focused around putting innovation into practice, including talks on ‘How to get VC ready’, ‘First Things First: What problem are you solving?’ and ‘Mastering the Art of Community Leadership’.

The team also managed to engage 11 community partners, expanding outreach and collaboration within the W3 network, and paving the way for future events.

Results

The Ressults

The event was praised for being organized, streamlined and well-run, with one attendee noting, “W3Node provided an incredible opportunity to connect with industry leaders and like-minded developers. The networking sessions were invaluable.”

Three travel scholarships were awarded, and the winning hackathon team, Mellow Finance, secured first place in the Mobile Track at ETH Cape Town.

Our speakers commented that the energy and enthusiasm from the attendees was fantastic, and that it was inspiring and exciting to see such a strong Web3 community emerging in Africa.

The success of the W3Node 2024 event has laid important groundwork for future iterations. With an expanding developer ecosystem and increasing interest from partners and sponsors, this annual conference is set to scale significantly in the coming years.

A recent McKinsey report stated that by 2050, 50% of the global workforce will be African. The W3Node event aims to help solidify Africa’s influence in the global Web3 revolution.
